Beach Grass...

European beach grass ( A. arenaria ) has been used to hold dunes in Europe and was early planted on Cape Cod to bind the sands.

Beach erosion is a huge problem on the Cape.  The eco system here is very fragile.  I found this to be more true than ever this winter when I went to three bay beaches and, literally, there was no beach.  At high tide the water was all the way to the parking lot at Breakwater.  The town of Brewster has huge piles of beach sand waiting to be distributed for the summer tourists.
